Become a Jar Keeper
Fireflies are nature's mesh network, and an observer is the eye that sees them flash. Jar Keepers' observers tell the game which repeater heard each catch, within minutes, signed by their own radio.
Join in one step
If you run a MeshCore observer with meshcore-packet-capture, add Jarlight as one more broker in its config and restart it. Nothing to install.
[[broker]] name = "jarlight" enabled = true server = "keepers.jarlight.app" port = 443 transport = "websockets" keepalive = 60 qos = 0 retain = true include_decoded = false [broker.tls] enabled = true verify = true [broker.auth] method = "token" audience = "keepers.jarlight.app"
The log should say Connected to MQTT broker: jarlight. Your region lights up on the map within a few minutes.
What Jarlight keeps
- Only
#jarlightgame messages (one byte decides). Every other packet is dropped unread. - Your observer's public key, its region code, and when we received each game message. Group messages stay encrypted; only the public
#jarlightchannel is ever read. - Your radio signs its own login. Its private key never leaves it.
Why it matters
A region is ready for First Light, launch night, once three observers watch it. Every Jar Keeper brings their region closer, and keeps the game honest: catches heard by independent observers must agree.
